Reframing Recovery Project

During International Recovery Month in September 2022, Sobriety Films joined forces with North West London ICS, Rethink Mental Illness and the Innovation Fund, to create the ‘Reframing Recovery Filmmaking Project’ as part of the North West London Suicide Prevention Programme.

‘REFRAMING RECOVERY’ was a dynamic five week filmmaking project led by Director Maddie Kitchen and Producer Judith Hunt, that invited participants from the North West London boroughs who identify as being in ‘recovery from substance misuse’, to create their own short ‘lived experience’ film.

Our 15 project participants came together to learn the skills of smartphone film production during 2 hour sessions per week. Through the use of storytelling, narrative structures, script writing, shooting and editing, their films explored and highlighted each of their personal journeys within recovery. The project culminated with a Première Public Screening Event of the films which included a Q&A from the participants.
